Gladiolus

From the Latin, the diminutive of gladius, a sword. Some times called a sword lily, this South African species were originally pollinated by long-tongues bees, but pollination changes have occurred allowing sunbirds, moths and long-tongued flies to do the job. This little flower is restriced to the Limestone outcrops around Saldanha Bay on the West Coast of the Cape.
